Hukamnama

Hukamnama is a combination of two words i.e. Hukam plus namah. Hukam means ORDER and the word namah means the LETTER. It is the WAQUE which is read from Guru Granth Sahib ji after the Ardas. The Sikhs treat Guru Granth Sahib ji as the living god, thats why it is treated as the order of Guru.Historically, it refers to the letters sent by Sikh Gurus to the sikh sangat, at various places. It also applies to the edicts issued by the Five sikh Takhats which are Akal Takht, Takht Sri Kesgarh sahib, Takht Patna sahib, Takht Hazur sahib and Takht Damdama sahib and are referred as the Hukamnamas of the Takhts.Full respect or Adab is given at the time of reading of Hukamnama.Sikhs use the first word of the Waque of the day (especially from GoldenTemple) as the first word of the name of new born babies Below exhibited is the Scanned copy of Hand Written Hukamnama by Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, and its well preserved and displayed at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, Patiala.
