Deputy Chairman of the Planning
Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia received the prestigious
'Sikh of the Year' award from Viscount Slim, a pro-India cross
bench peer at London. Montek Singh Ahluwalia has been
conferred with the title for his outstanding contributions to
the growth of modern Indian economy. Ahluwalia has received
the award at a grand dinner organised by the International
Sikh Forum at the Great Hall in Honourable Society of
Lincoln's Inn, London.
One of the pioneers of the India's
economic renaissance, Ahluwalia was also honoured with the
prestigious Lokmanya Tilak Puraskar in recognition of his
contribution towards the economic growth of the country,
earlier this year. Montek Singh Ahluwalia has held impressive
positions at the World Bank and attained major achievements
while working with the government of India. The citation at
the award ceremony applauded the efforts of the Ahluwalia and
stated that people like him are contributing massively towards
the growth of India.
After receiving the coveted award,
Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that it was a privilege for him to
get an award at the prestigious Lincoln's Inn. He hailed the
Forum for recognizing someone from India. The Deputy Chairman
of the Planning Commission has played an active role in 1991
when Manmohan Singh was the Finance Minster of India.
