A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition on Sikh soldiers in the British Indian
Army during World Wars I and II will be held in Kuala Lumpur on
Sunday. Organising chairman Harchand Singh Bedi said the
exhibition would be held at the Gurdwara Tatt Khalsa hall on
Jalan Raja Alang in Ipoh in conjunction with the 111th
anniversary of The Battle of Saragarhi.
“It offers a rare glimpse of the contributions of Sikh
soldiers between the late 18th century and the end of World War
II in 1945.
“Over 300 black and white photographs of Sikh soldiers in
action in Malaya, Singapore, Indonesia, Burma, Korea, China, the
Middle East, Africa and Europe will be displayed,” he said.
The Battle of Saragarhi, according to Har-chand Singh, was
fought on Sept 12, 1897, in the North-West Frontier Province,
now Pakistan.
“It is a great story of bravery. All 21 Sikh soldiers of the
36th Regiment of the British India were killed defending their
post from the 14,000-strong Afghan Tribal Force,” he said.
Organised by Mega Sound Machine Enter-prise, the exhibition
will be officiated by High Commissioner of India Ashok Kantha.
It is from 10am to 4pm. For details, call Harchand Singh at
