How to project Sikhs in
Movies & TV serials ? |
|
|
|
Do you think a few
trimmers in the Sikh community can be treated as the face of the
panth Khalsa ? |
|
|
|
Do you think, Sikhs like to be projected as funny characters in
movies or TV serials ? |
|
|
|
Do
you think, there must be a basic code of conduct for projecting
Sikhs in movies ? |
|
|
|
Do
you think, we have a right to ask SGPC & DSGMC that why don’t they
do something ? |
|
|
|
Do
you think, we can ask Dharm Prachar Committees that what they have
done in this regard ? |
|
|
|
Don't think that you don't have the time to reply on a matter
which is hurting the sikh sentiments. |

Sat Sri Akal, When you watch a
movie with actors playing the role of a sikh then one expects
certain norms to be followed. What we see is people from
villages and their language is not that sophisticated. Their
appearance is not that of a sikh. One wonders is there dearth
of sikhs to play the role. There are handsome sikhs in all
walks of life. Why cannot the origirnals be projected.. The
artificial sikhs spoil the image of sikhs and that is not
desirable . Moreover haviing seen people in different roles
then playing a particular role of a sikh that too in a
religious situation is really disguesting. If film maker
wants to shoot a film with sikh cast, one can advertise and a
good number of real sikhs would be available for the required
roles. As we cannot tolerate any body , even a sikh playing
the role of a Guru we should also stand united to oppose any
non sikh playing the role of a sikh. There are a number of
sophisticated sikhs and they can be projected to project our
culture and our history in much much better way than to make a
fool of ourselves.

Sat Sri Akal,
Sikhs in films should
be projected as Sikhs in the films, with untrimmed beard and
hairs covered with good turban. Sikhs in films when shown with
trimmed beard and clown type turbans gives a wrong impression to
our younger generation, even I would like to add further that
TV channels telecasting Gurbani in the morning and
evening should not be allowed to telecast Punjabi cheap and
vulgar songs sung by Sikhs or non Sikhs and dancing with nude /
seminude girls.
People reciting shabad
gurbani wearing turbans with trimmed beard should also be banned
on TV channels. If we want to keep Sikhism alive than we should
maintain Gurmat Maryadas in our family and concentrate on
character building for our young ones.
We should encourage
marriages in Sikh families with out giving preference to cast
system but unfortunately it is prevailing at its peak among
Sikhs.

Sat Sri Akal,
Sikhs in movies are projected as loud mouthed, jokers
and with less intelligence. This has to change on the part of
directors, script writers, as well as actors.
Yes, there should be
a basic code of conduct for projecting Sikhs in movies.
Very few Sikhs are
shown as non-trimmers. I live in Delhi where large number of
Sikhs are non-trimmers. A visit to
Punjab a few months ago was revealing. I could hardly
see youngsters wearing turbans or keeping full beards. This
was disturbing. Any organisation in Punjab which protests
against movies like "Singh is Kinng", should first protest
against the youth in Punjab to respect the teachings of our
Gurus and be true Sikhs.
